LEED Statement
Various green building programs have been developed to help reduce buildings’ impact on the environment. The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System, developed by the US Green Building Council, is one of the most widely used building rating systems in Northern America.
Mediterranean Colors, LLC is dedicated to promote sustainable materials that maintain the value of old and new buildings, while improving their energy efficiency, life cycle, impact on occupants, and esthetic appeal. By specifying eco stucco™ products architects and designers can significantly contribute to project’s rating toward LEED® certification.
eco stucco™ is a range of proprietary lime plasters designed to provide healthy, functional, and sustainable mineral finishes for interior, exterior walls and ceilings. These finish systems decorate and embellish walls & facades in the form of artistically hand-troweled artisan plasters. Essentially composed of natural mineral with minimal but expert preparation, eco stucco™ results in a long lasting crust of calcium carbonate derived from both the presence of sand and the carbonation of lime.

MATERIAL & RESOURCES: MR 1-1 & MR 1-2
OBJECTIVE: Encourage the reuse of existing buildings, while extending their life cycle and conserving resources, reducing waste, and reducing the environmental impacts of manufacturing and transporting new materials.
SOLUTION: Resurfacing an existing building is carried-out to repair, protect, and embellish its ceilings, walls and façades. Recommended eco stucco™ products used in this endeavor are:
UNILIME: Ready-mix lime base plaster
MATERIAL & RESOURCES: MR 2-1 & MR 2-2
OBJECTIVE: Minimize the amount of construction, demolition and land clearing debris that goes to a landfill or incinerator by recycling and /or salvaging the debris for future use.
SOLUTION: eco stucco™ products are packaged in bags or pails that can typically be recycled through traditional waste management programs. In addition, all eco stucco™ finish products are tinted on the job-site, reducing leftover waste material.
MATERIAL & RESOURCES: MR 5-1 & MR 5-2
OBJECTIVE: Encourage the use of materials that are extracted and manufactured within 500 miles of the project location, thus reducing environmental impact caused by transportation of materials.
SOLUTION: Typically, sand makes 50 to 70% of the material volume by weight of plaster. It is resourced regionally near project sites where it is extracted. Recommended eco stucco™ products used in this endeavor are:
NHL 3.5″ Job-mix hydraulic lime plaster binder for scratch and brown coats.
PRIMA: Job-mix hydrated & hydrated lime plaster binder for finish coats.
INDOOR ENVIRRONMENTAL QUALITY: IQ 4-1 & IQ 4-2
OBJECTIVE: Reduce indoor air contaminants that can be harmful to occupants and installers.
SOLUTION: During install and there ever after eco stucco™ base coats, finish coats, and natural sealers emit no Volatile Organic Compounds, contributing to eliminate sick building syndrome and other effects such as allergic sensitization or asthmatic symptoms.
INNOVATION IN DESIGN: ID 1-1 & ID 1-4
OBJECTIVE: Allow additional points to be awarded for exceptional performance beyond LEED requirements, or for innovative performance in Green Building categories not addressed by the rating system.
SOLUTION: Glass, smooth exterior finishes reduce the amount of maintenance to keep the building clean. Additionally eco stucco™ has a longer life cycle compared to traditional coatings, requiring fewer façade renovations over the life of the building. eco stucco™ also offers an alternative to ceramic tiles, quarried stones, and bricks, contributing to fewer high-embodied energy resources.
